Jani Leinonen, Art as Disobedience

He fights capitalism from within using its symbols, means and icons in a subversive humorous way that provokes audience’s critical viewing and draws attention to the real issues and problems of our consumerist societies.

For his Hanger King project a handmade wooden grill kiosk was set up in Kamppi shopping center, Helsinki city center. The menu gave the visitor two options: a top quality local and organic Take Away menu, or a Give Away menu, which saw food redistributed to those in need.

Campus Novel, Luminous Flux / Reflected overlays on locative norms

The year 1914 marks the beginning of a series of conferences, which set for the first time on an international level the regulations for the safety of the human life at sea (SOLAS)[1]. Growing ship traffic and the end of World War II, followed by a humanitarian vision of global development based on free movement and safety, created the need for an international signal code. Among the tasks of the said conferences was the official mapping of the lighthouse network and also the adoption of an international language protocol. With the occasion of the third conference in 1984, avant-garde filmmaker Jean Epstein was commissioned by the United Nations[2] the production of a documentary on lighthouses. Les Feux de la Mer (The Lights that never fail) was a film of informative and educative purpose and character and was later regarded as mere propaganda.

Don’t Follow The Wind – An exhibition in the Fukushima Exclusion Zone

2015 – ?

What can art do in an ongoing catastrophe, when destruction and contamination have made living impossible?

Ο λόγος για το ονειρικό ‘The key in the Ηand’, την εγκατάσταση της γιαπωνέζας Chiharu Shiota στο περίπτερο της Ιαπωνίας.

Curatorial Ethics – The time is right to talk about a curatorial code of ethics: where are the boundaries, what are the grey areas?

“Geometry holds the key to creating a unified equation of the universe” – A. Einstein
